I know that we have NCBI etc. but couldn't someone construct something close to the Yeast Genome Data Base for the human genome??? This site rocks.
(P.S. Yes probably ENSEMBL is the best pan genome bioinformatics gateway, I'm exploring it now. Hmm. So is my favorite gene in platypus???)
More like this
The world of genomics is changing. It was initially about sequencing the genome a single representative individual from a particular species.
...that is, if you still think that a genome sequence tells all secrets about someone's success in science etc. ;-)
What happens when I mention a paper describing two more Drosophila genomes?
Genome size can be measured in a variety of ways. Classically, the haploid content of a genome was measured in picograms and represented as the C-value.
If it is not, then you ought to change your favorite gene! Or splice it into platypus; anyway, the poor beast can't possibly get weirder :-)
Thanks for the link; yeast can certainly brag about the site at model organisms' parties.
If you retire the republican offence to the Mighty Yeast, Who-every-can-in-genetics, we could be magnanimous and share our database with you, poor cell culture
;P
I don´t know too much about human genome, but i supousse that the organization problem is huge compared to a eukaryote without introns, with little non-transcriptioned DNA, and five less ORFs.
Just wait until you see the new flybase...
