I was reading this account of an encounter between three cuttlefish -- a consort male escorting a female, who is challenged by an intruder -- and the story was weirdly familiar.
Lott grossly misrepresents Kellermann's study. He states that "they fail to report that in only 8 of these 444 homicide cases could it be established that the gun involved had been kept in the home." Kellermann et al do indeed

Well, I may not be a physicist but I am an evolutionary biologist, and you had better not get me started on that fascinating question.

I doubt very much he would mean to imply that evolution has a goal or pre-specified direction. At least, he wouldn't suggest such a thing nowadays.
