Bill Nye, Emily Lakdawalla, and Planetary Radio Headline The Planetary Society's Upcoming Presentations at Expo 2014

Are you wowed and awed by the mysteries of the Universe, the courage of astronauts, innovative space technologies, and stunning images from other worlds? Want to learn how you can become a space explorer?

Well, get ready to find "Your Place in Space" with The Planetary Society – the largest and most influential space interest organization on Earth – as the Society returns once more as a major Festival sponsor and presenter this April in Washington, D.C.!

Just as it did in the first two Expos, the Society will ignite enthusiasm for space science. Founded in 1980 by Carl Sagan, Bruce Murray, and Louis Friedman, the member-supported organization inspires and involves millions worldwide through advocacy, projects, and education.

Headlining the Society's lineup of luminaries for Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27 is Bill Nye the Science Guy® -- the CEO of The Planetary Society. Also presenting will be Bill's colleague, wildly popular writer and "Planetary Evangelist" Emily Lakdawalla. In addition to their stage shows, Emily and Bill will join Planetary Radio host Mat Kaplan for a live edition of the award-winning weekly broadcast. Join the audience for this interactive treat with surprise guest stars.

Festival Dates

"We are very excited about returning to the Expo, including our sponsorship of Bill's stage appearances. His Expo visits always attract thousands of thrilled attendees," says Jennifer Vaughn, Chief Operating Officer of The Planetary Society. "The Society's mission of engaging the public is right in line with the Festival's goals. It's a great fit, and we're always proud to be part of this amazing event."

Adds Mat Kaplan: "We have also been very pleased by how powerfully Expo visitors embrace what we do at The Planetary Society, especially in education and advocacy. All people, and especially kids, are natual explorers. People care about space exploration in a big way, and they want to see it continue. We show them how they can help shape its future."

Expo visitors will delve into the wonders of science and space in unforgettable ways during Bill Nye's two 45-minute stage show presentations, while Emily Lakdawalla will take them on exciting tours of the solar system, as revealed by the spacecraft that have visited all of the planets, along with moons, comets and asteroids. Tens of thousands follow Emily's brilliant blog at planetary.org, and as @elakdawalla on Twitter. Bill and Emily are also heard each week on Planetary Radio, heard on 150 public radio stations, Sirius XM Satellite Radio, planetary.org, and iTunes.

Says Jennifer: "The Planetary Society is 'Your Place in Space'. We look forward to seeing you at the Expo where you'll experience the excitement of space exploration and learn how you can get involved and make a difference!" For more information on The Planetary Society, visit planetary.org.
