The Baobab in Messina ProefPlaas: I sat under a great baobab at dawn and shared with him stories of humanity since agriculture began. I spoke of our music, art, literature and the great discoveries and conflicts of modern times. He stood unmoved for a long while. Then laughed at me whispering, 'I've been watching your species for 2,500 years from this very spot. Tell me young one, with all your people rush to achieve, which of us will see the next millenium?' Unsure of the answer, I could only laugh as well.

If you make a music mix that is a reflection of your informative years, what would those dozen or so songs be, and maybe more interesting, why? You don't have to be proud of the song choices - they're not necessarily…

I've always enjoyed David Attenborough's nature programs and films when I've managed to see them on TV and now, thanks to several of my readers, I've been able to view nearly everything…

The good folks at Neuroanthropology drew my attention to a pair of videos showing how chimpanzees work together to corral, kill, and then eat colubus monkeys. Amazing stuff.
The embedded video below shows a hunt from the rather chaotic point of view of cameramen chasing the chase at jungle-floor…

Beautiful!
I've been laughed at by bristlecones, sequoia and redwoods for the same thing. I've never tried talking to a tree who watched us evolve. Thank you for the vicarious thrill.
Best,

That's a Tilley, isn't it?
Carl, Indeed, it is. The Tilly booklet that comes inside the hat claims it makes fast friends of owners who recognize them on one other. We ought to write the company to verify it's true :)
