Drinking with an astronaut.

What would you talk about with an astronaut at the pub? (assuming you've had a few to many).

Some of us New Scientist staffers were idly wondering about the universe in the pub last night - arguing about the "speed of dark" (as opposed to the speed of light) for reasons I'd rather forget - when into the bar walks space shuttle astronaut Mark Kelly, pilot on shuttle Discovery's July 4 mission to the space station.

I'm jealous...the New Scientist crowd got a chance to do this. The Scienceblogger crowd should get to drink with...hmm... I don't know? What science etc. figure would you want to get loaded with?

Do you think we can start a prank war with the new science people? like panty raids and stuff?

Summer is just about here, and you need some summer reading. Light. Fuzzy. Delightful. Amusing. Perfect for the deck chair or the sand. Nevermind the fact that you are a low-energy, transitioning, cheap, homseteading type, and your deck chair is probably planted on your porch, and the sand is…
Well today is my thesis defense day. For those who are unfamiliar with the process, this is how it works at least at my university. When you start out in a lab you do the experiments your boss tells you to do, with the goal of picking up a project. This usually involves taking up where another…

Dafydd Williams (astronaut who worked in NeuroLab) came and gave a talk at UM Neuroscience a couple years back and we got to take him out to the bar. Sounds like they had a pretty good time up there with the Russians. Gotta make friends, as the Russians were allowed to bring vodka up there, but the US guys weren't. :)
