What's a mid-size breed of dog with a reputation for laziness? I need a slow-moving dog to contrast with a hyperactive husky, and I already used "basset hound" in a different context. Ideally, it should have about the same mass as a husky.

Syracuse beat Providence yesterday, in a good old-fashioned Big East game-- on a critical late-game play, a Providence player got smacked across the face hard enough to turn his head, and no foul was called. He missed the shot, Syracuse got the rebound, and it was all over but the free-throw…
One of the chapters of the book-in-progress talks about neutrino detection, drawing heavily on a forthcoming book I was sent for blurb/review purposes (about which more later). One of the little quirks of the book is that the author regularly referred to physicists trying to "trap" neutrinos. It…
A couple of days ago, I answered a question from a donor to the Uncertain Principles challenge page in this year's Social Media Challenge (we've raised $1,807 thus far-- thank you all). If you'd like a question of your own answered on the blog, all you need to do is send me the confirmation email…
"He won't hurt you". Check out this thread which popped up after a report of a child being killed in a pit bull attack. We can thank commenter scorp1101 for jumping right into it with the pit bulls are just fine and I know because I own one argument. The remainder of the thread is interesting for…
How about an old Lab? My Black Lab, Sadie, is 12 years old, and she's pretty damn slow these days.
Blood hound, they're always lounging next to a rocking chair. Perhaps a little big, but not too far from a husky.

Huge & lazy dog, until it's time to kick a jaguars ass.
Well, the bloodhound is the stereotypical "lazy dog," isn't it? Unless they catch a scent, anyway. Maybe a bit large for what you have in mind.

"...with a reputation for laziness?"
Well, you could make this completely self-referential and invent a breed of lapdog called, say, the Jonah Goldberg Spaniel.
"Bloodhound" is perfect. Thanks.

Heh.
The problem is, I want the book to be comprehensible to people who aren't heavy blog readers...
