SteelyKid is running a bit big for her age-- she'll be six months next weekend, but she's outgrown all her six-month size clothes-- but she's still tiny. At least, I think so, and Kate has the pictures to show why.
(I look awfully smug in that picture, mostly because it's only in the last week or two that I've regained the ability to get her to go to sleep while I'm holding her. For weeks and weeks, every time I tried to get her to go to sleep, she'd scream and kick and thrash until I had to give up and either hand her over to Kate, or put her in the sling. That was a serious bummer, so I'm pretty happy to get her to sleep in my arms again.)

As I head into each weekend, I start to think about possible topics for Mommy Monday. What will inspire me? What will my readers be interested in? What do I feel comfortable writing about? I debated a couple of topics this weekend, but I think I've settled on an update on breast-feeding a toddler.…
Since arriving in Mystery City, Minnow has been in a daycare room with 7 other infants. As each child has past their first birthday, they have been "transitioned" into a toddler room. Now, Minnow at 11.5 months, is approaching her own transition point, scheduled for early February. Minnow's mommy…
(Just in case you didn't grow up in the 1980s and need the reference.)
Two years ago, we bought Jessie the goat from our friends Jamey and Carol. We wanted Jessie because of her great genetics - she's a milk machine, and a sturdy, healthy goat who makes stunning babies. Zahra, her first daughter…
In response to my call for uncomfortable questions, Ewan goes for the jugular:
what do you think your biggest failing as a father has been to date?
See, this is the sort of thing I'm talking about...
The answer is "I get frustrated too easily."
The first few weeks SteelyKid was home, I could get…
Cute pic. You've probably noticed this by now, but all sizes on baby clothes are a lie. They make "9 mo." clothes that are perfect for 6 month old babies so that new parents will think, "Wow! My little one is growing so fast s/he's already in 9 month sizes!" This trend finally seems to stop once you get up to toddler sizes.
She is legitimately bigger than average-- 70-somethingth percentile in length, though only 50-somethingth in weight. (Those figures are two months old, but we'll have fresh data on Wednesday.)
Not only that, but _I'd_ just failed to get her to go to sleep, in the precise inverse of the usual pattern.
Smug, but deserved.
Don't get too hung up on those percentile charts, they're just a rough guideline. Parents of the 50% of babies who fall under the 50th percentile on something have a tendency to freak out because their baby is below average.
Romeo, does "rough guideline" apply at the extremes, too? One of my brother's was in the 95th percentile at birth and pretty much stayed there. (He's about 6'5".)
I think it's Chad's shirt. It looks perfect for snoozing on.
I agree with Doug@1 about baby clothing sizes. My kid fell off the bottom of the size and weight charts a few times, and she actually fit 3 months sized outfits at 3 months of age.
