NYC Loves Sarah Palin (Not!!)

Palin had a cameo on Colbert the other night, where he was doing his show in Iraq for a couple hundred (?) soldiers. She said something nice, then a lame joke, and the audience was silent. I LOL'd.

Palin = Total Idiot.

Has it totally left her tiny little pin-head what happened to McCain when he screwed with Letterman? McCain lied to Dave (the infamous stiop the campaigfn gaffe) then had to apologize to Dave.

Palin was on the today show this morning (my wife watches some before she leaves for work or I wouldn't have known). After she stated that letterman had involved her 14-year old daughter in a disgusting joke, the host (the guy) reminded her that that wasn't the case: letterman had not mentioned the 14-year old, and also mentioned the apology. palin was responding that "you must be naive" to believe HER take was wrong. I don't know what happened after that, since my wife left and I could turn things off and have some quiet.
I didn't think the joke was that bad, but unlike the palin family I don't have any political capital to reap from playing the martyr.
I do like this joke, told to me by a fellow (actually female) faculty member:
"Since non of palin's kids plays hockey, what does she mean when she calls herself a hockey mom?"

"It means her high school daughter got knocked up by a hockey player."

But the suggestion that it is OK to call Sarah Palin slutty and make jokes about the statutory rape of her 14-year-old daughter because you do not like her (the 14-year-old daughter was the only one at Yankee Stadium, and so was certainly the referent of Letterman's idea of a joke). Sad. You're off my list of RSS feeds.
And that joke you picked as special. Sad and sorry. That is comes from a 'female' makes it even sadder to me.

No joke was told about the 14-year-old daughter - that lie is the whole point of noting palin's stupidity and dishonesty here. I would hope you wouldn't repeat the other right-wing lie that was circulating: "nobody went after chelsea clinton or amy carter"

I thought I was the only one who didn't like Letterman. I don't care how hip he is, Craig Ferguson is loads funnier.
And yes, that joke was obviously about the older daughter. Why do you repeat lies?
I don't care about Palin, she's prima facia joke. Any politician who can advocate abstinence when presented by the failure of the policy in her own family lives in Bizarro world.

One daughter accompanied Palin to the Yankees game. She was 14.
And, like, do you clowns think it is better if she were 18 and the pregnancy by A-Rod jokes were going on? I do not understand you people and have no plan to ever again. And certainly no plan to buy books for Grrlscientist again, as she approves this crap. Her call. Sad, in my view.

Let's keep this real here guys. Most of you that are commenting are either faking that you don't "get it" or your ideology is blinding you to any sort of common decency.

Letterman's "apology" was contrived and weak. Whether any of you agree politically with Palin or not has nothing to do with what happened here.

Dave blew it. He was trying to make a very crude joke about a now 18 year old Bristol Palin and didn't realize that the 14 year old daughter was indeed the one at the game and THUS!!!!!!!!! the butt of the crude joke.

The point is that this sort of humor should not be directed at the young children of politicians, ever. I like crude and vicious humor more than most of you I would bet. But that doesn't mean there are no lines of decency at all.

If someone had said this about my daughter, no matter her age, I would beat the person into hamburger. If any of you are honest people then you would say the same thing.

It got him a quick laugh, but it will hurt his reputation.

Sorry, but I'm not sure whether this is an attack or a thanks: I'm not being snarky, just really slow right now - and this comment is meant to be completely unrelated to the next one.

I will repeat - my problem with palin is her insistence to misrepresent what happened in the joke, and given her behavior in the election I can't see it as the usual concern of a parent for a child, but rather in her case I see it as playing for political gain. perhaps I'm more cynical about how she behaves than i should be, but nothing she did in the election prompts me to change my mind.

This is Letterman, this is what he does. He ridicules mercilessly people he doesn't have respect for. The "apology" obviously was never intended as one, and he just ridiculed more the whole situation. Like him or not, the only mistake he made was not to know what it was actually the 14-year-old at that game.

But whoever doesn't follow the Palins' comings and goings (like me) would have obviously thought (like I did that night) the joke was aimed at the one that actually got knocked up.

And what he's mocking is not the girl or even Palin herself, it's their hypocrisy with the whole thing about teen pregnancies and abstinence.

I thought the non-apology was funnier than the jokes, which I found kinda lame anyway but inconsequential too when I heard them. Palin's just grasping desperately for some publicity right now, even flat out suggesting that Letterman's a pervert (when it probably wasn't even his joke).
