We are a part of this world whether we like it or not: we have a choice to either preserve these species or to destroy them in search of short-term monetary gains. Sulky, sullen Joe Lieberman plans to deliver the Democrats' radio response to President Bush today and urge the president and Congress to "hold the Pentagon and Army chain of command accountable for the neglect of our soldiers at Walter Reed". -- Yes, that Lieberman, the crybaby who stomped his little foot and said he was going to defect from the Democrat party if he didn't get his way. Absolutely unbelievable.
They don't say it on this video, but I'll say it here; this is what happens to out-of-work scientists. They don't stop making experiments at all! Instead, they find new experiments to conduct in the absence of paying work. Are you afraid? Well, if so, please be sure to employ your local unemployed scientist in a scientific field. I forgot to mention that grrrrrrl scientists like to blow up things, too.
British physicist Professor Stephen Hawking is ready to take a zero-gravity flight in a specially modified airplane next month. His trip is being paid for by Zero Gravity, an American company that normally charges $3,750. Hawking, who is almost completely paralyzed and frail after decades in a wheelchair, will be accompanied by medical staff. Hawking will take off on April 26 aboard the vomit comet, a padded Boeing 727 that flies a roller-coaster trajectory to produce periods of weightlessness. This plane will take off from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The airplane flies to an…
Tomorrow (Saturday) night, there will be a lunar eclipse which is promised to be one of the best in years. The eclipse begins at 2018 GMT, and the Moon will be totally immersed in the shadow of the Earth between 2244 and 2358 GMT. The lunar eclipse will be visible throughout Europe, Africa, South America, and the eastern parts of the US and Canada. During "totality" (see figure below), the only light that will reach the Moon's surface will have been filtered through the Earth's atmosphere, making the moon appear reddish in color. "If the clouds stay away, it will be fascinating to watch…
Alright everyone, the day that we all have been waiting for has finally arrived; my turn has finally come to host Tangled Bank! This means that I am now requesting submissions from all of you, faithful and new readers alike. I am specifically seeking submissions about nature, science and medicine. I am requesting you to get your submissions in early because I have a court date on the 14th, so the earlier you get your submissions to me, the more likely they will be included and, after a thoughtful reading, well-represented to the public.
Is Bush suffering from presenile dementia? Is this the result of Alzheimer's Disease or is it the result of brain damage due to excessive drug and alcohol use? Your guess is as good as mine. Or maybe there is genius behind the stupidity, as you saw earlier? (just to remind you of the previous video)
The effect of the myosin inhibitor blebbistatin on the localization of Borealin. Human embryonic kidney cells were treated with a myosin inhibitor for 3.8 hours. This video, below the fold, tells the story of a man whose penis became the temporary home for the candiru fish, a parasitic fish that lives off its host's blood. Do I think this is fact or fiction? Actually, I am not sure what to think, even though I've been told in the past that this is fiction.
Has anyone been following Doonsbury?
Any ideas of where George W Bush and his minions fit into this scheme?
This has been a rough week for me because I am having to deal with a bunch of bills, including hospital bills and another bill that I had no idea I was supposed to pay. This cryptic bill is for the care of my birds while I was in the hospital. Because the care-giver said that it would be covered by "an agency", I "had nothing to worry about" according to her, so as a result, I didn't worry about it. Well, now I am being sued for the entire bill, which is in the thousands of dollars -- money that I don't have, which is enough to cause me extreme anxiety and stress. The mounting debts are…
Below the fold is a streaming video where we learn more about the genius behind the stupidity that is otherwise known as "the W."

Today, I went downtown to fetch a book that Houghton-Mifflin had sent to me to review. Because the UPS station is at 43rd, this required me to go through Times Square with its huge tangle of humanity. When I got there, Times Square consisted of barely controlled chaos, as usual, with its sunshine and commotion and bright lights, giant televisions and blinking advertizements everywhere. Sirens whooped and police directed traffic as thousands of people poured across the streets like a river of corpuscles in a blood vessel. Just as I reached the other side of the street, there was a huge…
Have you wondered what the big commotion is regarding bird flu? Are you still confused about how avian influenza came to be and why epidemiologists are so afraid of it? Do you wonder why I have gone on numerous tirades about how the virulent H5N1 strain did not originate in wild birds, but rather, is a product of human creation? Throughout the entire book, Doctor Michael Greger examines influenza viruses and what makes them into such killers by meticulously weaving together historical, medical, ecological, agricultural, viral, and economic factors that contributed to the "hatching" of this…
Wow, this streaming video is Keith Olbermann's fabulous smack-down of Condoleezza Rice's stupid statements about the Iraq War [8:20].
