carnivals

Check out these compendia of blogginess and comment on them, or anything else that strikes your fancy. Skeptics' Circle I and the Bird Carnival of the Liberals
Look! It's another massive edition of the Tangled Bank!
I must purge the mailbox of a few worthy links…so here they are. There are a couple of calls for submissions: The Tangled Bank Carnival of Liberals I and the Bird A few carnivals I failed to mention this week: Carnival of the feminists Carnival of Education Freethought Filter is back up and running again! Darksyde addresses the Fermi "paradox". I don't think it's a paradox at all, and that the answer from his list is the rarity solution.
Never mind me, I'm running around with classes and meetings today…here are a few quick links. The 29th Skeptics' Circle. The Tildification of Norwegianity. The Terry Writing Challenge—there's real money involved. An in-depth interview with PZ Myers. I and the Bird. Intelligent Design subverts itself. An example of the research promise of ID. Don't trust the NIH. The Carnival of the Liberals.
We have a new Tangled Bank at Aetiology: Tangled Bank #48. It's kind of grungy this time, somehow…does Tara wear a lot of flannel and come from Seattle?
The inaugural edition of the Carnival of the Animalcules is up. It's almost lunchtime, though, and you might want to wait until after you've eaten…especially before reading the one about fast-food toilet water.
A quick carnival update: Keep Tara busy! She's accepting submissions for the Carnival of the Animalcules (due tonight) and the Tangled Bank (due next Tuesday). Send submissions to aetiology AT gmail DOT com. Keep Coturnix busy! Also due next Tuesday are submissions for the Circus of the Spineless, at coturnix1 AT aol DOT com. The venerable Carnival of the Vanities is hosted by a birdwatcher this week. The Carnival of Education is up to number 55.
I haven't been doing much today—I'm afraid I've got some bug that had me wrestling with my digestive tract all day yesterday (bad news: it won), sweating and freezing all night, and now today I'm just an exhausted lump. Fortunately, there's lots of other stuff to read. Tangled Bank is up at Kete Were. That'll keep you busy for a while. Then we've got a Teaching Carnival and a Carnival of Education, a Carnival of the Liberals, and a History Carnival. The Skeptics' Circle is looking for submissions, as is I and the Bird. I'm going to go huddle in my bed for a while now.
Looking for submissions: I and the Bird—birdwatchers, send links to ahooper at bowtieinc dot com by 14 February. The Tangled Bank—science fans, send links to pzmyers@pharyngula.org, host@tangledbank.net, or ketewere@gmail.com by 14 February. Already in operation: Carnival of Education Animalcules—the carnival of the wee beasties Carnival of the Feminists
I have been remiss in bringing these to your attention: Carnival of the Godless Skeptics' Circle Grand Rounds
The Tangled Bank has grown so huge that apparently we now need a whole polytechnic university to handle it. Appropriately enough, I'm not on the academic faculty—I'm down in the health services clinic, checking out genitals.
Next month: Science & Politics
I got a couple more requests to drum up interest in up-and-coming carnivals. The Dharma Bums are hosting the next I and the Bird carnival, so if invertebrates aren't your bag, but highly derived tetrapods with elaborate keratinaceous external insulating coats are, send them a link. If even that isn't sufficiently narrow in scope for you, how about bipedal primates? How about bipedal primates with very specific, advanced cultural views? The Carnival of the Liberals is looking for submissions now, too. Hey…and if you written something about those spineless Democrats, send the link to both…
This coming week will be a great one for science carnivals. First up is the Circus of the Spineless which will appear on Pharyngula on Sunday—if you've written anything about invertebrates in the past month, send the link to pzmyers@pharyngula.org by Saturday evening. The second big event is the next edition of the Tangled Bank, scheduled for Wednesday, 1 February, at Adventures in Ethics and Science. Send links to any science writing to dr.freeride@gmail.com, pzmyers@pharyngula.org, or host@tangledbank.net by next Tuesday. Hey…and if you written something about the science of invertebrates…
Hey! I'm supposed to host the Circus of the Spineless next week (I think on 29 January), and I've only received one submission so far! Someone must have written something somewhere about invertebrates, right? There is a set of rules for submissions, but it's going to be simple: I'll accept anything about any organisms outside the class Vertebrata. I'll spell it out. You can write about the phyla Acanthocephala, Acoelomorpha, Annelida, Arthropoda, Brachiopoda, Bryozoa, Chaetognatha, Cnidaria, Ctenophora, Cycliophora, Echinodermata, Echiura, Entoprocta, Gastrotricha, Gnathostomulida,…
Open Thread I'm doing some traveling and touristy things with grrlscientist today, on top of somehow coping with the first week of classes (physiology and our freshman seminar in biological principles), and attending Drinking Liberally at the 331 Club tonight. I also have to get tickets to the Prairie Home Companion show that will be taped here at UMM on 11 February…it all adds up to me being a little scattered and distracted and otherwise occupied for much of today. You all are just going to have to fend for yourselves for a bit. Here is a short list of things I should write about, but won't…
The latest edition of the Tangled Bank is online at Greythumb.blog. We are looking for volunteers to host future editions later this spring—drop a note to me if you're interested in spreading the word about science blogging.
The next edition of the Tangled Bank will be held at Grey Thumb.blog on Wednesday, 18 Jan 2006. Send in those links to wonderful science writing to tangledbank@greythumb.org,host@tangledbank, orme by Tuesday evening.
The Friday Ark doesn't look too crowded so far today—head on over and board up your organismal postings!
