Hey, today is the third anniversary of my first post on "Adventures in Ethics and Science" at the original digs. I can honestly say that when I started the blog as a virtual extension of class discussions in my "Ethics in Science" I didn't imagine that it would continue past the end of the semester, nor that it would get scooped up to become part of ScienceBlogs. A few notes before the cupcakes: I've made some post-Blogroll Amnesty Day updates to my blogroll (and, with luck, didn't mess up any of the links). But it's not too late to tell me about a blog I really should be reading! I…

By way of Abel and DrugMonkey (among others), I see that today is Blogroll Amnesty Day. Jon Swift has the must-read post on the origins of the day and what it means now: The idea that links are the capital of the blogosphere seems so obvious that you would think an economist like Atrios of Eschaton would have realized it long ago. And as he is a progressive who has accumulated quite a bit of link wealth, you might also think he would be in favor of redistributing some of that wealth instead of just letting it trickle down. So when he announced last year that he was declaring February 3…

Jon Swift and Skippy are reminding us that this weekend is the time for the annual Blogroll Amnesty Day. The rule is to highlight, link to, and add to one's blogroll, some deserving blogs that have smaller traffic than you. Now, it's sometimes not easy figuring out who has what traffic - if you really like a blog you probably think the traffic there is higher than it is. Also, I have real trouble picking just a few. Go and check my Blogroll - it's huge! And only a few of them are Big Dawgs. Most are rather smallish blogs. Check them out, at least some of them. I have been really busy…

Do you like ClockQuotes? Do you ever read them? Excitedly wait every night until 4am EST for them to post? How about YouTube videos of 1970s/80s Yugoslav music? Like them? Dance and sing along? What about My picks from ScienceDaily? Is that a useful filtering service to you? Is that a place where you find stories you are interested in? Thing is, those things are easy and quick to post and I am sure there will be three posts per day no matter how busy or tired I am and the traffic will come at least from the Last24Hours page for a little while. But it is a filler. Have you even noticed…

Every year, the folks over at Medgadget.com host the Medical Weblog Awards. I've been nominated a few times, and even did OK in the best new blog category a few years back. This year, I'm apparently nominated in the Best Clinical Weblog category--which, honestly, I don't think I fit into. So I won't ask for your votes here, but I'll suggest you check out some of the other fine blogs that are nominated, and the others that are nominated for all the other awards (including fellow Scienceblogger Orac). If you see something you like, pass along a vote or two.
...but should have exciting news this afternoon....stay tuned....
If you post a comment here and it does NOT appear immediately, it is likely in the Junk Folder, which I tend to forget to check every day. Please e-mail me so I can fish it out and republish it here sooner rather than later.

No, I've not dropped off the face of the earth. I'm currently here in rainy Los Angeles for a meeting with the WIRED SCIENCE/Correlations people, where I met up with fellow Correlations bloggers Clifford Johnson, Michael Tobis, and Sheril Kirshenbaum, as well as WIRED SCIENCE producer Damon Gambuto and a number of other folks who work behind the scenes there. I arrived here on Thursday (thus missing all the caucus hoopla back home), but unfortunately I spent all day sick as a dog in my hotel room, finally hit by the norovirus that swept through my family earlier in the week (and that I'd…
