I knew the Beagle Project was planning to rebuild and resail the Beagle, Charles Darwin's old ship … but who knew their plans were even more ambitious? They're going to resurrect Chaz D! And you can get the whole evil scheme on a poster.

tags: The Hamster, The Popcorn and The Piano, pets, humor, comedy, streaming video After I ran across the recent news story about the murderous hamster, I couldn't resist sharing this video of a pet Siberian dwarf hamster with you to nullify any bad impressions that you might have about hamsters. This hamster is either a white phase animal or it is in its winter pellage (it's hard to know the difference unless the owner tells you what the animal's light cycle is) [1:15].
First, the good news. The inestimable John van Whye has added, with the help of his team of course, 90,000 scanned images of Darwin's journals, manuscripts and letters. Now the bad news. The Utrecht Herbarium is closing, and no plans have been made to store and make available its collection of type specimens. Why this matters is that the very name of species depend on there being type specimens. Go read Catalogue of Organisms, an amazing blog in any case, on the matter.
Lewis Black defends the Old Testament? He's still angry about it, at least.
A great new piece of technology turns you into old mister Pickard, your pissy, old, get off my damn lawn, next door neighbor. Carmaker Nissan Motor is using a specialized driver's suit and goggles to simulate the bad balance, stiff joints, weaker eyesight and extra five kilograms (11lbs) that may accompany senior citizenry. Associate chief designer Etsuhiro Watanabe says the suit's weight and constriction help in determining functionality and accessibility within cars by putting young designers not only in the minds of the mobility-challenged, but also in their bodies. "Difficulty in…

I have decided to link to this easy little tutorial where the entire process is explained in a nutshell, including a cute little flow chart graphic, too. [1:25].

(In German with English subtitles -- a good chance for you Americans to practice your German!). [8:28].
We're going to be seeing more humor like this in the next few weeks, I suppose. I like the tag line: Because Ben Stein is just as qualified to make software as he is to talk about evolutionary biology. And if you're confused about what this "evolutionary biology" thing might be, here's a picture of Stein's understanding of the subject. If that's too much for you, just seek solace by reciting a prayer from the Book of Bon Jovi, Chapter Wanted Dead or Alive. (via some other Canadian.)
Note the year, too. Although, to be perfectly correct, we aren't descendants of theirs…we're distant cousins.
Following on from my demonstration that Darwinism is entirely responsible for anti-Semiticism back on 1 April, comes this discussion of how Darwinism has even infected the morals of anti-Darwinians, via John Lynch; in this case Maciej Giertych, one of the pro-ID "scientists" interviewed by the film Expelled, and a notable and vocal anti-Semite. Obviously he is influenced by the evil Darwinism, and not from any long-standing tendency in Poland to attack, kill and generally persecute Jews well before Darwin published. And of course poor Ben Stein and Mark Mathis - this makes the clear message…

I don’t usually highlight my e-mail spam, but this was so priceless, I just had to. So much wrong here: Guinness is running its "Online Lottery" out of a PO box in Killorglin. I’ve seen Killorglin. It’s best known for a goat being annually named King of Ireland. Seriously. And apparently now the payment representative is working out of the UK (+44) with a Hotmail account. Who have thunk it? And the general manager of the notification department is a Reverend. As in priest. These people aren’t even trying anymore. Full text below the fold. Guinness Online Lottery. Diageo Ireland P.O. So, by way of Oliver Willis, I came across the John McCain Is Your New Logo site. Being the Mad Biologist, I decided to combine it with this website, and presto chango: Have fun.
