tags: iPhone, technology, Apple, comedy, humor, funny, streaming video Apple's iPhone ads tell you that whatever you want to do, "there's an app for that." But what if you're trying to solve problems with the iPhone itself? Here's a ad spoof that addresses this, too.
A realization had over dinner, looking up "cream cheese" and "fromage frais" on our new iPhones: the iPhone is the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. At least while attached to Wikipedia. That's got to be work an app -- something with "Don't Panic" in large friendly letters on the front. I'm not sure this counts. You're welcome, App Store programmers.
Some of you may recall that horrible, annoying talking paper clip that Microsoft inserted into their evil software many years ago. It was universally reviled, so you don't see it anymore, but have you ever wondered what happened to it? Clippy met Cthulhu. No contest.

In various posts refuting the creationist canard that we can't explain everything, I've argued that if biologists knew everything then we wouldn't need to do biology. Comedian Dara O'Briain makes a similar point and many other hilarious ones too: What does it say when the best observers of our times are comedians?
Although I was born in Detroit itself, like so many Detroiters in the 1970s my family moved to a suburb of Detroit called Livonia when I was 10. I haven't lived in Livonia in nearly 25 years, but my parents still live there in the same house where I spent my teen years. So the politics of the town occasionally still piques my interest. Sometimes they turn really nutty, such as this year's City Council election. The city posted videos of all the candidates answering the following questions: The following are 10 of the 11 candidates running in the Livonia City Council Primary election on…

I know this one's been floating around the blogosphere for a while, but it finally made its way to me at a time when I needed something lighthearted and amusing: Best quotes: "Well, science doesn't know everything." Well, science knows it doesn't know anything, otherwise it would stop ... But just because science doesn't know everything doesn't mean you can fill in the gaps with whatever fairytale most appeals to you." ..."nutritionist" isn't a protected term. Anyone can call themselves a nutritionist. "Dietitician" is the legally protected term. "Dietician" is like dentist, and "…

tags: animal behavior, hamster on a piano eating popcorn, siberian dwarf hamster, Phodopus sungorus, humor, funny, streaming video It is Saturday morning afterall, so I am just going to have fun sharing silly videos of the cutest little mammal known to humanity; Siberian dwarf hamsters. This video features a couple Siberian dwarf hamsters, one of which is a speed demon, revealed by the speedometer attached to its wheel. As an added bonus, this hamster teaches us a little math; To get the hamster's speed, divide the speed written by ten, then you will have it in km/h.
tags: animal behavior, hamster on a piano eating popcorn, siberian dwarf hamster, Phodopus sungorus, humor, funny, streaming video I've linked to this video before, but I love dwarf hamsters (kept them as pets most of my life, in fact, but don't tell this to the guy I just married), so I had to share this with you again;
tags: animal behavior, hamster wheel, siberian dwarf hamster, Phodopus sungorus, humor, funny, streaming video I dunno about you, but sometimes, I feel like I am running my life away on a hamster wheel -- getting nowhere fast. Except for those days when the hamster wheel of life stops working properly, that is! Below the jump, a sweet little Siberian dwarf hamster, Phodopus sungorus, demonstrates what I mean;
tags: socialized health care, Bill Maher, humor, funny, satire, fucking hilarious, social commentary, streaming video I am one of more than 40 million Americans who cannot afford health care -- and I think America SHOULD have government-funded health care, as Bill Maher points out so eloquently in less than two minutes. When I had surgery (to place a titanium plate into my badly fractured wrist) in Finland, my hospital gown covered everything, and it was made from real fabric, not that see-through tissue paper that is used in American hospitals. So Maher's observation has more merit than…

He has since recovered and now is depressed -- just like the rest of the country. [2:30] Not to split hairs, but a typical manic episode doesn't last three years.
